The Andrus traditional end to the evening is to put Grandma Andrus' stockings (which Santa stuffs with presents) over your head. If there is an orange in the stocking, you put it in the end and swing it around until you are stopped by Grandma. Demonstrating this tradition are Austin and Dan.Santa magically appeared as usual (Grandpa??), and brought an elf with him this year (Richard). Also, niece Jamie (Wallo) and Patrick Geren showed up in time to sing carols and open gifts. Jamie here is about 9 months pregnant. We heard that she had her baby this past Sunday are are soooo excited for little Connor James to join the family!
The kids took their parts seriously. Camille and Richard were the Inn Keepers along the way, Austin and Caitlyn were Joseph and Mary, and Madelyn was baby Jesus. Dan also sang a Forgotten Carol by Michael McClean where Joseph is singing about how he learned that Christ was really his Father--a beautiful song!
We celebrated Christmas Eve at Dan's parents' home. They hosted their traditional Christmas Eve party with a twist--a Posada-style evening where the children went from room to room asking if there was room in the Inn and being fed along the way. Here they are dressed for the Nativity part of the evening.

The posada idea is fun. It seems like they try hard to make it special every year. They blend tradition with fun new ideas.
